Job Description:

Could you be our next Communications Manager? 

The Impact & Corporate Relations team is responsible for managing external communications and media relations, government and industry relations, issues and crisis management, internal communications (corporate staff) and impact (ESG) strategy for McDonald’s Australia. We are on the lookout for an experienced and ambitious Communications Manager to cover a fixed-term, 12-month parental leave vacancy. As a key partner to the McDonald’s Australia business, your mission is to protect and enhance the reputation of one of the country’s most well-known brands. Reporting to the Senior Director of Impact and Corporate Relations, your role is critical in supporting the implementation of proactive and reactive communications strategies across external and internal channels to support business growth.

What can you expect on a day-to-day basis? 

  • Developing proactive, positively integrated corporate relations strategies to drive awareness of the McDonald’s business, impact, and brand stories (including Ronald McDonald House Charities Australia)

  • Providing strategic counsel to leadership and key functional departments regarding external announcements, engagements, message development, media briefings, speech writing and content development.

  • Managing McDonald’s consumer PR agency to ensure delivery of plan

  • Acting as the key spokesperson for the business including supporting issues and crisis response activities

  • Overseeing development and delivery of local people and community storytelling calendar

  • Building and maintaining relationships with journalists, online influencers, and key internal stakeholders

  • Collaborating with the broader Corporate Relations team and agencies to ensure integration of all communication and stakeholder engagement activities

  • Supporting Senior Director of Impact in the management and delivery of our Purpose and Impact Cross-Functional team and activities

  • Writing and distribution of press materials, key messages, Q&A documents

  • Management of Corporate Channels including McDonald’s Australia website and LinkedIn

Qualifications:

Your keys to success: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Media, Communications or similar field.

  • Proven experience in an External Communications or Corporate Relations role focused on Australian business and consumer media

  • Proven issues management experience

  • Strong news sense with the ability to  conceptualise and pitch business-related (non-consumer focused) stories to diverse media targets

  • Strong writer with proven experience in crafting media statements, key messages and media releases

  • Confident with media engagement across a broad range of outlets and sectors, including business and consumer media

  • Highly self-motivated, organised, and an effective relationship builder with co-workers, senior stakeholders, third parties.

  • Ethical and responsible, understands and adheres to McDonald’s Standards of Business Conduct
