Job Description:

The Opportunity 

The Head of HR is a key leadership role in the UK & Ireland business. Being genuinely people centred in how we work and operate, this role firmly has a seat within the leadership team. 

This role is responsible for providing strategic direction and business partnership to our leaders (restaurants, Franchisees, office teams) to develop a high performing, inclusive culture and best-in-class people practices, across our restaurants and office teams. 

We expect a strategic, enterpirse leader that can act as a visionary for the company. We expect them to be commercially savvy, and able to work with peers, Franchisee partners and global teams to shape company objectives and to construct plans that drive McDonald’s UK & Ireland business performance and as an admired people brand.

What will my accountabilities be?

This role leads leaders across HR Business Partnership (operations and office) and Insights, and plays a pivotal role in the People Leadership team.

  • A leading voice on the people strategy - in partnership with Centres of Excellence, the Culture team and wider People Leadership team, you will bring the voice of the business

  • Anticipates and identifies future people-related issues to ensure People strategies are consistent with current and future business needs 

  • Co-ordinates and coaches the wider HR team to deliver outstanding results and breakthrough critical thinking

  • Directs change management and organisational development

  • Partners and collaborates with Global COEs and other markets to contribute to global initiatives as well as market execution

  • Contributes to the evolution of our company culture - safe, respectful and inclusive workplace

  • Leads franchisee engagement to ensure a business enabling people plan is continually in place.

HR Business Partnership: Partner HR leads for corporate and operations-facing teams to develop HR Business Partnership capability to ensure the team are influencing and impacting across people strategies.

Insights: Partners with Insights lead to elevate People Insights capability to help the team advise on data led opportunity and actions.

What Team will I be a part of?

You will part of the People Leadership Team and will report directly into the Chief People Officer

Who are my customers?

Customers of this role will include our Franchisees, Directors and our UK & Ireland Executive. The role will liaise heavily with other leaders from across the organization, as well as global colleagues.  

Qualifications:

What background would we expect you to have? 

We are looking for an experienced HR Professional that has experience leading large teams with a track record of enhancing the employee lifecycle across multiple populations. 

  • Experience leading a broad HR agenda, notably HR Business Partnership. This includes the proactive partnership with functions, COEs and other stakeholders

  • An understanding of Data and Insights, and the value created in driving, and creating accountability for a clear and compelling people strategy

  • In-depth knowledge of UK legislation and employment law is critical

  • Comfort and experience working in a fast-paced and changing working environment

  • Empower and support team members as appropriate, but always driving timely results in the right way

  • A passion to develop talent

  • Strong communication, influencing, and relationship building skills

  • Strong partner cross-functional alignment skills and interpersonal awareness, ability to balance strategic view with tactical direction

  • Tenacity and drive - able to operate and achieve results independently with minimal direction

  • Creative thinking - ability to think out of the box to solve complex problems.
